FRSC Warns Motorists On Side Mirrors, Head Lamps
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Bauchi State, has warned drivers and owners of articulated vehicles to desist from putting them on roads without proper light and side mirrors.
Its Sector Commander, Mr Zakariya Mamman, was made this known in Bauchi recently while addressing newsmen said that most of the articulated vehicles operating in the state did not have signals, rear light, side mirrors or even front light.
He warned that any articulated vehicle with such anomalies would be impounded and its driver handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
“It is an offence to drive vehicles without proper light and side mirrors as the action may cause accident.
“Tipper drivers and owners are fond of neglecting this important part of the vehicle’s road worthiness and it has been causing accident on our roads.’’
Mamman said that recently, the command had witnessed and recorded road accidents that involved articulated vehicles.
He appealed to the Tipper Drivers Union in the state to assist the FRSC in ensuring that every articulated vehicle plying the roads was fitted with the signals, light and the side mirrors.
In a response, the Chairman of the tipper drivers union in the state, Alhaji Galadima Aliyu, said his union was doing its best to correct the anomalies.
He said that discusions were going on with the owners of articulated vehicles to ensure that only experienced drivers were allowed to drive articulated vehicles.
It will be recalled that during the third quarter of the year, many articulated vehicles were involved in fatal accidents in various parts of the state.
