Rivers Transport Cooperative Union Splits
The Rivers Transport and Investment Cooperative Union Limited (RTICUL), the umbrella body that holds transport co-operatives has divided, as another group known as the Rivers Transport Cooperative Union Limited (RTCUL) has begun operation as an autonomous body for transport cooperative business.
The Tide reliably gathered that the group had disagreement with respect to administration and management of resources, which could not be resolved amicably few months ago. This led to the split, it was gathered.
When the President of the RTICUL, Mr Tubonimi Wokoma was contacted, he stated that the development was borne out of greed and disloyalty to cooperative norms and values.
Wokoma also accused the leadership of the Rivers Cooperative Federation (RCF) of having a hand in the problem and division of the transport union, saying, that the target of the RCF had been to distablize the transporters, so as to have their way in whatever they want to do.
Speaking to The Tide on the issue when contracted, the President of the new cooperative group, Mr. Ibinonye Sunday said that the present change in operations was as a result of disregard and disrespect to agreed rules of operation, pointing out that the leadership did not want to follow order in administration and management of resources.
Both the new President and his Secretary, Mr. Chukwudi Okogbule also denied being lured by RCF leadership to break up, but said that they went to them for assistance in terms of accommodation to enable them begin operations.
As at time of this report, it was gathered that almost all the cooperative drivers have changed their identity to the new group, abandoning the former.
