RSG Assures Adequate Funding Of Sanitation Authority
Rivers State Government has assured the provision of adequate funds to the State Environmental Sanitation Authority to enable it meet the challenges of Environmental Sanitation in the state.
Rivers Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Nyema Weli gave the assurance while inspecting sanitation equipment at the premises of the Authority.
Dr. Weli who acknowledge the enomuos challenges facing the Authority, said he would liaise with relevant authorities to improve the infrastructure and equipment of the Agency to help its execute its job effectively.
According to him, it is not only buying the equipments, but putting the equipment into operational useful, adding that without a functional warehouse, it can not be protected adequately.
The commissioner reassured that his office would work with the sanitation to make sure that at the end of the day, the lost glory of the Garden City would be restored.
He told residents in Rivers State that they have a crucial role to play in providing a decent environment irrespective of where you work, pointing out that government was determined to put in motion effective machinery that would enable residents, institutions or organisations to keep their environment always clean.
Earlier in his address, the chairman of the State Sanitation Authority, Mr. Isobo Jack had passionately appealed to the state government to empower the Authority with monthly subvention to enable it acquire functional equipments and vehicles for waste disposal.
He said since assumption of office, the authority has diligently supervised the activities of refuse contractors to ensure a clean environment.
Mr. Jack noted that some receptacles located from such receptacles flow out to the road to affect traffic flow.
