CAF Champs League: Esperance, Enyimba, Others Set For Semi Finals
Tunisian giants Esperance will meet Al Hilal of Sudan in the semi finals of the Champions League after the group phase of the competition ended on Sunday.
Two-time champions Enyimba of Nigeria will take on Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca in next month’s other semi-final game.
The fixtures were confirmed after the last rounds of group matches were played.
Eynimba confirmed their dominance of Group A with a 2-0 win over Cameroon’s Coton Sport.
Al Hilal managed to qualify for the last four after they held Raja to a goalless draw while their closest rivals Coton Sport were beaten in Aba on Sunday.
Meanwhile, 1994 winners Esperance set up their clash with Hilal after the latter held six time champions Al Ahly of Egypt to a 1-1 draw in Cairo.
This means Esperance finished top of Group B with 11 points while Wydad took second place on seven points despite losing 3-1 at Mouloudia Alger in Algeria on Friday.
Wydad qualify for the last four despite originally being knocked out of the tournament in the third round by reigning champions TP Mazembe of DR Congo.
Mazembe were subsequently disqualified from the Champions League for fielding an ineligible player in an earlier round in their win over Simba of Tanzania.
Wydad then beat Simba 3-0 in a one-match play-off in Cairo to detemine who went into the group stages of the tournament.
The semi-final games take place in October with the champions of the competition being decided on the weekend of 11-13 November.
