Abducted Federal Lawmaker Regains Freedom
A member of House of Representatives representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency, Hon Emmanuel Deeyah, who was abducted by unknown gunmen in his country home, Gwara on Saturday Monday, regained his freedom at last.
The Tide gathered that Hon Deeyah was rescued from his captors at Kono waterside in Khana local government area after a gun battle between the police and the hoodlums.
Confirming Hon Deeyah’s release, the Rivers Police Spokesman, ASP Ben Ugwuegbulam, said the police overpowered the kidnappers during the gunbattle between the police and the kidnappers which forced the hoodlums to abandon the victim.
According to him, the freed Emmanuel Deeyah is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital in Port Harcourt, while, efforts are being intensified to arrest the fleeing hoodlums as well as recover their operational weapons.
Meanwhile, the President of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), Mr Ledum Mitee, had earlier condemned the abduction of the federal lawmaker, noting that such act was against the desire of MOSOP and called for an end to such negative activities in Ogoni land.
