Mile One Market: RSG To Allocate Stalls, March
The Rivers State Government has indicated its intention to allocate stalls in the Rumuwoji market, popularly called Mile I Market in March.
The State Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi made this known recently during a voters registration sensitization exercise to the market.
He said, no politician would be considered in the allocation, saying only registered traders would be allotted the stalls.
While urging the traders to take the registration exercise seriously by ensuring that they all registered, the Governor said even if it meant closing down the market on for 24 hours, he would do so to make it easier for them to register.
On his part, Chairman of the Mile I Market Traders Association, Chief Young O.C Georgewill appealed to the Governor to involve traders in the market in the process of allocation.
According to Georgewill, ensuring that the traders were represented at the allocation exercise would among other things, create a more cordial relationship between the government, the traders and the public.
He used the opportunity to assure the governor of the readiness of the traders to register enmasse, knowing that it was their civic responsibility.
“I have already talked to my colleagues and we have agreed to mobilise everybody to register so that we can vote for candidates of our choice,” he said.
