Deployment Of Buses Yields Result In Edo
The deployment of buses by Edo City Transport Service (ECTS), within Benin metropolis, has started yielding results, as it has checked arbitrary hike of fares by commercial bus drivers.
The Tide source recalls that Governor Adams Oshiomhole recently inaugurated 100 air conditioned luxurious buses, purchased for ECTS for both intra-city and inter-state transport services.
Since Tuesday, when ECTS management deployed the buses in Benin metropolis, the rampant hike in transport fares has disappeared.
Before the deployment of the buses, anytime it rained or there is traffic-jam on the King Square-Ogbowo-UNIBEN Main Gate and New Benin-Uselu-UNIBEN Main Gate routes, fares were usually hiked from N50 to N100.
However, since the introduction of the new buses, the trend has stopped, as commuters even preferred to enter the air conditioned buses, which charge N30 per person.
A student of University of Benin (UNIBEN), who spoke to newsmen on the condition of anonymity, said that though the buses waste a lot time because of the many bus stops, he still preferred to use them.
“ The buses are air conditioned, new and clean, I just hope they will be able to maintain them,’’ the student said.
