Federation Cup: Tornadoes Appreciate PH Football Fans
Winners of the Port Harcourt zone of the 2010 Federation Cup Group stage competition, Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna has acknowledged the support of football fans in the city.
Tornadoes garnered a total of six points after winning its scored and third matches against UNICEM Rovers and Kwara United at the Sharks Stadium over the weekend to relegate Kaduna United to runner up position.
Consequently, the Minna team will now stay back to welcome its quarter final opponent, Sunshine Stars of Akure on Wednesday.
In a press statement signed by the media officer of Niger Tornadoes, Mohammed She’, the club Chairman, Malam Suleiman David on behalf of the management committee of the club expressed appreciation to the “good and football loving people of Port Harcourt and Rivers State for the overwhelming support Tornadoes enjoyed in the group stage matches.
“We, on the management committee know that the support we enjoyed assisted tremendously in our emergence as group winners and would remain in Port Harcourt for the quarter final match against Sunshine Stars of Akure on Wednesday,” the statement said.
It further solicited for more support and co-operation from the people for the game on Wednesday, hoping that Tornadoes and Rivers State club, Dolphins FC would qualify to play the grand finale of the competition.
“It is our wish that this will further strengthen the existing good relationship between Niger and Rivers States”, Malam David concluded in the statement.
In the other quarter final parings, Dolphins, runner-up in Makurdi zone will be in Kano to clash with the zone’s top team, Rangers International, while Makurdi centre winner, Enyimba International hosts Kano runner-up, Heartland FC.
Ocean Boys, who topped Ibadan zone will do battle with Kaduna United, which came second in Port Harcourt.
All matches will be played on Wednesday.
