Senator Urges Continuation Of 7-Point Agenda
A former member of the National Assembly, Sen. Inatimi Spiff, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to continue with the implementation of the Seven-Point Agenda started by his predecessor.
Spiff, who represented Bayelsa East Senatorial District from 2003 to 2007, told newsmen in Port Harcourt that such would be in the national interest.
“The President from whom he took over had set off a number of things. The seven-point agenda for example; We believe that he will start from where the other president ended and that will be in the interest of Nigeria as a whole,’’ he said.
On the Niger Delta, Spiff said the amnesty programme had restored peace in the region and praised former President Umaru Yar’Adua for implementing it.
“You can see that few months back before the amnesty, you cannot come to Port Harcourt and sleep with your two eyes closed”.
“But immediately after the amnesty, a lot has changed and now, the entire Niger Delta area has come back to what it used to be”.
“A lot of people moved out of this zone, but right now, people are coming back because peace has been restored”.
“And as the months go by, with the new President, I think it will be much better than what it is now,’’ he said.
Spiff said that the Niger Delta people were happy that their son is President.
“As Niger Delta people, our first joy is that we are now in the mainstream of affairs in this country. We do not expect that he should leave the serious national problems and attend to our problems alone”.
Spiff said Jonathan was a product of fate and urged Nigerians to support him to achieve good governance.
