RSG Hails Oil, Gas Centre Project .Drums Support For PHACCIMA
Rivers State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Prince Ogbonna Nwuke has assured the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Mines and Agriculture Insustry (PHACCIMA) of government support toward the establishment of an oil and gas international centre in Port Harcourt.
Prince Nwuke made the promise when the executive members of PHACCIMA visited him in his office in Port Harcourt.
The commissioner also commended PHACCIMA for its role in attracting businesses and increasing economic activity in the state.
Speaking at the occasion PHACCIMA President, Engr Vincent Furo called on churches to desist from affairs like conducting trade fairs without observing due process. The call became necessary according to the PHACCIMA boss following the ongoing trade fair put together by the Living Faith Church (a.k.a) Winners Chapel), without proper consultantion with constituted authorities.
Engr Furo said that PHACCIMA would no longer condone illegality from churches or any other organisation which arbitrarily organises trade fairs or any other related fairs without observing due process or obtaining permission from entrusted authorities like the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce.
Speaking to newsmen after the visit, PHCCIMA President averred that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry happens to be the supervising ministry of the chambers hence the courtesy call by executives of the body to compel the ministry to aid PHCCIMA’s bid to establish an oil and gas international centre in Port Harcourt.
Engr Furo used the opportunity to inform the commissioner that the chamber has discovered a befitting land good enough to site the centre at Choba in Port Harcourt, and called for financial support.
Engr Furo also disclosed that the quest for the establishment of an oil and gas international trade centre started in 1999, in 2005 practical measures were put in place but was stalled due to bureaucratic bottleneck and change of government.
Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIM) according to Engr Furo will be following up the courtesy call on the commissioner with another one on the executive governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and requested that the commissioner should lead them as head of that delegation.
