Delta To Partner UNDP On Climate Change
The Delta State government has expressed its readiness to partner with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) to check the adverse effects of climate change in the state.
The Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN), gave the commitment in Asaba on Thursday, when a team from the agency visited him in his office at the end of its tour of the state.
The Weekend Tide’s source reports that the UN team was in Asaba for a three-day-fact-finding visit to assess the state government’s commitment toward checking the adverse effects of climate change.
According to Utuama, the government and people of the state are ready to partner with the UNDP in the area of climate change.
He noted that Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s leadership role in climate change and green economy had been outstanding.
He thanked the UN officials for scoring the state government high in its efforts to combat climate change.
The deputy governor also gave the assurance that Uduaghan’s administration would not waver in the course of making the world a better place.
“We have achieved so much in the area of checking the adverse effects of climate change.
“With the progress recorded so far, the battle against climate change has already been won,” he said.
Earlier, the UNDP team leader, Mr. Christophe Nuttal, commended Uduagha’s administration for working toward adapting to the effects of climate change.
Nuttal said that in their three days stay in the state, they had seen energy efficiency projects being executed in the state.
He gave the assurance that the UNDP was looking forward to collaborating with the state.
Also speaking, Dr. Akiko Yamamoto, the Regional Portfolio Manager (International Waters) Environment and Finance Group of the UNDP, thanked the state government for its commitment.
He said that the UNDP would sign an agreement with the Federal and Delta governments.
