Boat Mishap Claims Two In Bayelsa
A boat mishap which occurred at Amatolu axis of River Nun in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has claimed two lives including that of an under graduate of Niger Delta University, Amassoma.
The victims and 10 others who sustained various degree of injuries were said to be returning from a wedding ceremony when their boat ran into stormy weather.
The operator of the boat said to be on a high speed was unable to contend with the wind, as he lost control, leading to capsizing of the ill-fated fibre boat.
Local Divers have recovered the corpse of the NDU student while that of the other victims is yet to be found as at the time of filling this report.
The Tide gathered that the body of the undergraduate has been buried according to the custom of the people.
Maritime workers who spoke to The Tide over the incident, accused the boat driver of recklessness and over speeding saying that the tragedy could have been averted if he had been careful.
The state police command could not comment on the issue, as it claims that briefs are yet to be received over the incident from the Divisional Police Officer incharge of the area.
