AGN Forms National Unity Govt … As BOT Dissolves Caretaker Committee
In a bid to bring lasting solution to the crisis that has been lingering in the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) in the past few years. The Board of Trustees (BOT) early this month invited all the twenty state chapter chairmen of the Guild and other heads of some political groups within the AGN such as Emeka Ike, Emeka Rollers, Kanayo O. Kanayo (KOK) and Segun Arinze and they agreed with BOT to form government of national unity as a way forward for the organisation.
The BOT according to our source, agreed that all national elections held and or about to be conducted is cancelled for the interest of peace in the guild and government of national unity be formed to oversee the affairs of the body for two years and conduct a national election. The BOT also resolved that no further election shall hold in the guild apart from state chapters that are due for elections.
Based on the new development, Steve Eboh (Ajebo) was asked to withdraw his case in court, The BOT chairman, Prince Ifeanyi Dike, stated that caretaker committee headed by Kanayo is dissolved. However, the chairman said all presidential aspirants are right now given a chance to taste power. They include Segun Arinze, AGN President, Emeka Ike Vice President South East and Hakeem Rahman, Vice President, South West.
Others are: Steve Eboh, vice president North Central, Ovunde Ihunwo, vice president South South, Bamaiyi Kurpala, vice president North West, Charles Emmanuel Umeh, National Secretary, Emeka Rollas, National financial secretary, Cyprian Ibe, Treasurer, Omobola R. Badejo, National publicity officer, Abubakar Salihu Yakubu, Director of Guild Services, Roy Ekwunife, chief whip and Elizabeth Ofuani assistant national secretary.
Meanwhile, a top Nollywood comic actor. Mr John Okafor (Mr Ibu) is not happy about what is happening in the AGN. He stated clearly that Segun Arinze does not have what it takes to lead the guild stressing that he single handedly established branches of the AGN in Italy and Turkey.
Mr Ibu said he is not happy that AGN has degenerated to the level it is at the moment and that it is only those who can bring about positive changes that should be allowed to lead the guild.
