Donbraye Tasks NFF On Return To Grassroots Football
Grassroots football has been identified as the key to establishing a standard national football team in Nigeria. This was the view of Jossy Donbraye, a former Super Eagles left winger in the country. According to him, it behoves on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to go back to the grassroots. He said that there must be a youth programme which must be closely monitored by the NFF and Senior Nigeria coaches. He continued that players are expected to graduate from one cadet team to another, adding that, if that is done, the idea of taking overaged players to junior championships would be a thing of the past. “I remember vividly that there used to be the Principal Cup Competition. Most of the 1980 Green Eagles squad were picked from the academicians”, he said. Donbraye explained that Nigeria is blessed with talents seathered all over the place said that our major problem is poor organisation, opting that, our football administrators must change their orientation. He posited that Nigeria can rule the world in Sports only if the right people are given the opportunity to manage the round leather game. “Football management should be left to the experts not politicians, he remarked.
