Amnesty: Sylva Reads Riot Act To Unrepentant Militants
The Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva has vowed to prosecute any militant who refused to embrace the amnesty offer by the Federal Government at the end of October 4, deadline.
Also to be prosecuted are persons or groups aiding and abetting militancy in the state.
Chief Sylva who stated this while speaking at 49th Independence Anniversary of the Country and 13th anniversary of the creation of Bayelsa State said anybody no matter how highly placed would be treated as criminal if caught in the act.
Governor Sylva pointed out that the path of progress is a deliberate choice “we chose to succeed despite our difficult history” and thinking of going back to past experiences is something we must avoid.
The governor further stated that what the state need for development is the “sweat of its citizens, and not their blood.
“With the amnesty, we have put militancy behind, therefore “no one will be allowed to take us backward”, he declared.
He promised that his administration would do everything possible to reintegrate the repentant militants into the society warning that those working against the collective interest of the state would be made to face the full force of the laws of the land.
It is time, he said to muster energy to summon trying situations throughout the ages in the lives of an Ijaw man. “Our individual motivations are needed now than ever before to sustain the march to progress”.
The governor said, Bayelsa at 13, has not lagged behind its peers, as a lot of progress has been made in areas of human and infrastructural development and urged to the people to be patient with his administration.
