Federal Agric Loan For Rivers Farmers Soon
This was the fallout of a meeting between the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon Emmanuel Chinda and a team of the Nigerian Agricultural Cooperative and Rural Development Bank (NACRDB) in Port Harcourt.
Speaking during the meeting, the Port Harcourt branch Manager of NACRDB, Mr Godwin Ibe said, the N1 billion loan is a federal government project aimed at improving the agricultural sub-sector as well as empowering farmers for high productivity.
Also speaking, the South-South Zonal Manager of NACRDB, Mrs A.O.Martyns-Yellowe lamented the lack of interest being shown by the South-South Farmers and Rivers State in particular towards utilizing such government programme.
In his response, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon Emmanuel Chinda assured the team that the present administration will not delay in exploring the agricultural sector.
Hon. Chinda further declared that, the state government is in a hurry to embrace policies and programmes that will benefit Rivers farmers.
In another development, the state Ministry of Housing has formally handed over the Rumuodummaya School-To-Land building to the Ministry of Agriculture.
The hand-over which took place at the School-To-Land building site in the conference hall, was done by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Chinorum Aya.
While handing-over the keys and documents to the building, Mr Aya commended the staff of the Ministry of Agriculture for their patience, and applauded the contractor who ensured that the project was completed.
In her acceptance speech, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Jokonda Adamu, thanked God for finally seeing the contractor through the project, and accepted the key to the building, which according to her will be utilised immediately.
The contractor of the project, Dr Odiliyi Lolomari, advised that the building should be properly secured.
Also speaking a Director in the Ministry of Housing, Mr Baarine Kpone, thanked the Ministry of Agriculture for their patience and said the site will be fenced to secure it against vandals.

Senate Orders NAFDAC To Ban Sachet Alcohol Production by December 2025 ………Lawmakers Warn of Health Crisis, Youth Addiction And Social Disorder From Cheap Liquor
The upper chamber’s resolution followed an exhaustive debate on a motion sponsored by Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong (Cross River South), during its sitting, last Thursday.
He warned that another extension would amount to a betrayal of public trust and a violation of Nigeria’s commitment to global health standards.
Ekpenyong said, “The harmful practice of putting alcohol in sachets makes it as easy to consume as sweets, even for children.
“It promotes addiction, impairs cognitive and psychomotor development and contributes to domestic violence, road accidents and other social vices.”
Senator Anthony Ani (Ebonyi South) said sachet-packaged alcohol had become a menace in communities and schools.
“These drinks are cheap, potent and easily accessible to minors. Every day we delay this ban, we endanger our children and destroy more futures,” he said.
Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who presided over the session, ruled in favour of the motion after what he described as a “sober and urgent debate”.
Akpabio said “Any motion that concerns saving lives is urgent. If we don’t stop this extension, more Nigerians, especially the youth, will continue to be harmed. The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has spoken: by December 2025, sachet alcohol must become history.”
According to him, “This is not just about alcohol regulation. It is about safeguarding the mental and physical health of our people, protecting our children, and preserving the future of this nation.
“We cannot allow sachet alcohol to keep destroying lives under the guise of business.”
