No Chance For Home-Based Players – Ahmedu
Assistant coach of Nigeria’s Women National Basketball team, D’Tigress, Peter Ahmedu has stated that domestic league players have no chance of making the national team for either the Olympic team or the national team for any other national team engagement due to long period of inactivity that has bedevilled players in the local league.
Ahmedu speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said with what is on ground though unfortunate, the local players have nothing to show as a yard stick for national team invitation unlike their foreign based counterparts who has been in competitive mode with games and competitions all year round before the Covid-19 and guaranteed of returning to action post Covid-19.
“I tell you it’s going to be tough for any local league player to make the national team with what we are seeing on ground no league, no competition, no program, it’s going to be tough not like all the players from Europe playing day and night, playing every weekend, getting better so it’s going to be tough for any local player to actually make the team.”
