Hockey Super League: Police Machines’ Yinka Stuns Flickers With Hat-Trick
Police Machines Jaiyeoba Yinka led the 6-2 demolition of IGP Flickers at the Nigeria Hockey Federation’s Super League which got underway in Abuja, at the weekend.
Yinka scored three times in the match with impressive shots which motivated his team’s spirit to overwhelm their opponents.
Other scorers were Audu Aliu, Inuwa Mohammed and Aliyu Mohammed with one goal each to seal their team’s comfortable win.
IGP Flickers scored through Awasa Augustine and Musa Theophilus.
Similarly, Desert Queens of Yobe defeated Heartland Flickers of Imo 2-0 to leave the seven-time champions with no points.
Reacting to the defeat, Onyekwere Moses, Heartland Flickers coach, blamed it on the absence of her key players due to some family issues.
Moses said the team had maintained a superb performance in the league with several trophies for Imo and Nigeria.
“We don’t have a quality training pitch in Imo. We only train in a sub-standard pitch that is reminiscent of a room.”
She urged her team and supporters not to lose hope, adding that the team would do them proud in their next matches.
Other match results at the competition featuring 15 teams altogether have Kada Stars beating Riv Kings 1-0 in the male competition.
In the female competition, Kada Queens beat Plateau Queens 1-0.
Tidesports source gathered that the league is a competition where clubs can win tickets to the African Club Championships scheduled to hold in Egypt in December.
The competition will end on July 15.
