Wranglings, Others Caused Nigeria’s AFCON Flop – Minister
Nigerian sports minister
Solomon Dalung has said a meeting with NFF top shots concluded that internal wranglings, lack of commitment and late release of funds combined to ensure Nigeria failed to qualify for the AFCON for the second straight time.
Last week, Nigeria lost 1-0 to Egypt in Alexandria to be eliminated from AFCON 2017.
“Instability and internal wranglings, late release of funds and lack of commitment were to blame for the country’s abysmal failure to qualify for the AFCON,”Dalung disclosed.
“The board must go back and strive for internal cohesion, they must reorganise themselves.”
He further said that at his insistence Nigeria will table a formal complaint to CAF as regards some issues during the crucial AFCON qualifiers against Egypt last month.
Dalung also announced that a controversial exclusion clause which sought to restrict those who aspire for elective offices will be repealed at the next NFF congress in September.
