Go-Round/SWAN Athletics: Obuah Splashes Cash, Scholarships On Athletes
Sponsor of the Go-round/SWAN Secondary Schools Athletic Championship in Rivers State, Bro. Felix Obuah, has promised to reward the best 20 male and female athletes in the competition with cash prize and scholarships to university level.
Bro. Obuah stated that one million (N1m) cash prize would be awarded to the overall best local government area and state government also promised to give another one million naira (N1m) to make it two million (N2m) comprehensively.
He said this at the official opening ceremony of the competition held at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium, Port Harcourt.
Also speaking, the former Minister of Sports, Hon. Tammy Danagogo charged the participants to make good use of the opportunity and work to become stars in the future, to enable local government, state and country immortalized them just like the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium and others.
Meanwhile, the competition began on Monday with various events which includes, 100m girls – round one 100m boys and others.
However the 23 local government areas in the state are participating in the competition, which have about 460 participants.
The competition is geared towards the discovery of young and potential talents who would some day replace those athletes who have passed their prime at the state and national level.
Awards to cart home includes the Governor Nyesom Wike’s award for best Local Government Area, Commissioner for Education scholarship award for indigent students, Bro. Felix Obuah scholarship award to best twenty (20)athletes, Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka Award for most outstanding male athletes, Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka award for most outstanding female athlete, Hon. Samuel Ejekwu awards for male/female category and National SWAN award for most disciplined athletes.
