Nigeria Trade Hub Portal Receives 75,000 Hits Monthly – Customs
The Managing Director, West Blue Nigeria Limited, a consulting firm, Ms Valentina Mintah, said the Nigeria trade hub portal received an average of 75,000 hits on its website monthly.
Mintah, a consultant for the Nigeria Customs Service, said this in an interview with The Tide in Abuja.
She said the Nigeria trade hub portal was set up by the Nigeria Customs Service in 2013.
She said the portal was part of the preparation by customs for the take-over of Destination Inspection from three service providers.
The web-based application was to provide information and guidance for international trade business processors in the areas of import, export and transit trade.
She said that the effectiveness of the portal had won the organisation four different awards.
She said the customs received four categories of awards and recommendation from the World Customs Organisation (WCO).
“The Nigeria trade hub portal has been accepted internationally, and recognised by the WCO as the standard for trade information.
“And at the moment we experience more than 75,000 hits on the website per month coming from all over the world.
“The Nigeria trade hub portal has won awards including the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) national award for best portal and the social media in Africa best portal award.
“The social media award is an African regional award which looks at the use of social media to disseminate information.
“The trade hub won the best platform national award and the best in the use of ICT award.
“It is through the social media that customs has been able to disseminate trade information to the citizenry,” Mintah said.
According to her, the comptroller-general of customs has received a commendation from the WCO on the Nigeria trade hub.
Mintah said the body also included the portal in the WCO single window compendium as national best practice.
“It is not easy to have an African product from an African agency to be recognised by the WCO for international best practice,” she added.
