Ribadu Joins PDP, As APC Vows To Reclaim Adamawa
A former presidential
candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and ex-chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, has defected from the All Progressives Congress(APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Tide gathered that Ribadu registered by proxy at his Makama Ward in Yola South to enable him pick the PDP governorship form for the Adamawa State governorship election scheduled for Octocber 11,2014.
Sources hinted that the former EFCC boss may likely address journalists today,( Monday) on his governorship ambition.
However, the national leadership of the PDP said it was not aware yet that the former presidential aspirant had defected to the ruling party from the opposition party. The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Ibrahim Jalo, told a national daily that, “It is after the official defection that we can say whether he had moved or not and whether he will get waiver or not. Even at that, he has to ask for the waiver.”
Ribadu has been under pressure from the national leadership of the PDP and the Presidency to move over and contest the governorship election of Adamawa State under the platform of the ruling party.
The Tide learnt in Abuja that those who had so far indicated interest to contest the election under the platform of the PDP were the former military administrator of Lagos State, General Buba Marwa; former Senator representing Adamawa Central, Abubakar Girei; a former Political Adviser to the President, Ahmed Gulak, and a former Minister, Idi Hong.
Others include former Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr Umar Ardo; Dr. Ahmed Modibo; Mr. Markus Gundiri, the son of former PDP national chairman, Mr. Awual Tukur and the Acting Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri.
However, the APC, whose leaders and other party faithful from Adamawa State met recently, at caucus and stakeholders meetings, has promised to reclaim the mandate of impeached Governor Murtala Nyako.
The two-day marathon meetings, which took place in the state capital,
Yola, on Thursday and Friday, were convened at the instance of the party executive and presided over by the state chairman, Binta Masi Garba, under the leadership of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

APC Unveils New NWC At National Convention
Delegates at the convention, held at the Eagle Square, also produced a new national working committee (NWC) through a consensus arrangement endorsed by stakeholders.
Dr Ben Nwoye was named deputy national chairman (south), replacing Mr Emma Eneukwu, following consultations within the party.
Sources within the party said the decision was influenced by zoning considerations and consultations among party leaders, with Mr Peter Mbah, Enugu State governor, playing a significant role in ensuring Dr Nwoye’s inclusion.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Yilwatda said his re-election was a call to greater service and pledged commitment to unity within the ruling party.
“We are ready to serve, ready to lead, and we are ready to build the party, together with the nation,” he said.
He added that the new leadership would not “fail or falter” in carrying out its responsibilities.
President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, governors, members of the national assembly, and other party leaders graced the convention.
