Club Canvasses Support For Less Privileged
The President of Divine Elect Sapphires Club, Mr Anthony Ikpor, has called on well-meaning Nigerians to assist the underprivileged members of the society.
Ikpor made the appeal in Warri when the club donated some items to elderly persons in Osubi and Heart of Delta Orphanage, both in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta.
The items include toiletries, food items, clothing and other materials.
Ikpor said that the club was committed to assisting needy people, appealing to other philanthropists to also offer such assistance.
“We should not relent in rendering assistance to the needy, sowing seeds to those who are in need. There are so many people out there who need our help. A little help here and a little help there will wipe away their tears. The message I have for Nigerians is that they should not forget the less privileged,” he said.
Ikpor said that the club would also award scholarship to some indigent students of primary and secondary schools.
He said that the club believed that the execution of youth empowerment programmes was necessary in efforts to enable the youth to contribute meaningfully to the society.
Receiving the items, Mr Chijoka Ukadike, the Public Relations Officer of Heart of Delta Orphanage, thanked the club for the donation and urged affluent persons and groups to always help the needy.
He stressed that if the people acted as their brothers’ keepers, the country would be a better place to live in.
Ukadike appealed to other philanthropic groups to emulate the club’s gesture.
