20 Rivers Weightlifters Set For Youth Festival
About 20 weight
lifters from Rivers State are expected to participate in the forthcoming National Under-17 Sports Festival scheduled to hold from 5th -15th December in Lagos State.
Chief coach of the Rivers State weight lifting association, Aduchee Ojadi who made this known yesterday in Port Harcourt said the body has started identification exercise to enable the state government know the numbers and names of athletes representing the state in the competition.
He further said that the athletes were selected and groomed ahead of the festival so that lifters could compete favourably with their counterparts when the competition eventually starts.
“The body has done their part by picking qualified athletes who are required for the tournament, we are new waiting for the state government to give us the go ahead order for the camping”, he said.
He however, told Tidesports that the body is expecting more laurels from the female lifters, stressing the body lacks competent male lifters in that category.
Ojadi said that the body is determined to do their best at the junior National Sports Festival to win medals for the state.
