ITU Seeks RSG Support In Telecom Innovators Competition
The International Telecommunications Union (ITU), Telecom Young Innovators team, has sought for the support of Rivers State Government in order to enable them participate in this year’s ITU telecom world young Innovators competition slated for November in Bangkok, Thailand.
A statement by the Minister of Communication technology, Mrs Omobola Johnson which was made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt, over the week, said they want the information to spread throughout the states for proper awareness of the event.
The Minister who spoke through her Deputy Director, e-government, Mrs Moni Udoh, said the event will run from November 19 to 22nd this year.
According to her, the Ministry of Information and Communications is a key player in driving ICT initiatives, and must ensure that Nigerian Youths are persuaded to participate in the competition.
Mrs Johnson noted that winners in both concept and starting categories will smile home with 5,000 and 10,000 US dollars.
The Tide learnt that the event will not only allow winners the opportunity of making money, but will also enable them to interact with their colleagues all over the world.
She explained that the Ministry has since uploaded the information and the link to the ITU world 2013 on its website, maintaining that the awareness campaign must reach the targeted youths in order to enable them participate actively in the programme.
Meanwhile, she has extended her regards to the state’s information technology department and assure of her commitment to push the communication technology Ministry forward.
