Bayelsa Warns Against Rejection Of Corps Members
The Bayelsa Government has warned educational institutions in the state to desist from the practice of rejecting corps members posted to them for their primary assignments.
Governor Seriake Dickson gave the warning in Kaiama in the Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state, during the passing-out ceremony of the 2012 Batch ‘C’ National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation course.
He frowned at the reported cases of corp members’ rejection by some schools and communities, stating that it was an offence to reject corps members in the state.
Represented by Mr Salo Adikumo, the Commissioner for Education, Dickson directed all schools, Local Government chairmen and traditional rulers to accept corps members posted to their communities.
He explained that the policy of posting the young graduates to the schools was part of the State Government’s measures to build high standard of education in the state.
Dickson assured the corps members good welfare and adequate security.
The Bayelsa Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr Abiodun Sanusi, said that 1,800 corps members passed out of camp, having successfully completed their orientation programme.
According to him, the successful corps members have been exposed to various training in martial arts and entrepreneurial skills to help them in life.
The coordinator said the service scheme had over the last few years undergone a lot of reforms, aimed at repositioning it for greater contribution to national development.
