Exhibitors At Turkish Export Fair Commend Organisers
Some exhibitors at the just concluded Turkish Export Products Fair 2012 in Lagos said the fair offered them opportunities to make more contacts and expand their businesses.
They told our correspondent in Lagos that the last minute rush by customers boosted their sales and expanded their contacts.
Our source reports that 105 exhibitors took part in the three- day exhibition.
Mr Dennis Azapoglu, an Engineer at AXY Transformer, manufacturers of transformers, said “this is our first time in Nigeria”.
“We came to look for partnership and customers, which we got at the fair.
“A lot of visitors are really interested and l feel it is due to the power situation in the country.
Azapoglu said that the company would get more feedback, hoping that more people would make their orders “as soon as we return to Turkey”.
Mr John Ismail of Makrom Clothes, said that he came to the fair to meet his customers personally, adding “the deals are excellent”.
“I only came to Nigeria to meet customers one on one and to know the problems they are facing with my clothing line.
“Already, I have customers in Nigeria, but I came to create more awareness for my label,” Ismail said.
Mr Steve Mehmet, the Export Manager at Famy Soft, a converting firm, said that he intended to stay for more days after the fair because of the big market for his products in Nigeria.
Mr Matthew Serkan, Sales Engineer at Gold Computers, manufacturer of laptops, said that the fair was a platform for his company to introduce its products.
Serkan said that he was able to educate the people on the importance of advancement in technology and the need for visitors to patronise the products.
“I strongly believe that as soon as we get back to our country, there will be high level of response from the contacts we have made,“ he said.
Mr Deniz Benson, the Sales Representative of Serin Trailer Company, said that he made good contacts at the fair.
“This is good market for me and l wish to be here next year.
“l hope that Turkey will have good economic relationship with Nigeria,“ he said.

Sugar Tax ‘ll Threaten Manufacturing Sector, Says CPPE
In a statement, the Chief Executive Officer, CPPE, Muda Yusuf, said while public health concerns such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases deserve attention, imposing an additional sugar-specific tax was economically risky and poorly suited to Nigeria’s current realities of high inflation, weak consumer purchasing power and rising production costs.
According to him, manufacturers in the non-alcoholic beverage segment are already facing heavy fiscal and cost pressures.
“The proposition of a sugar-specific tax is misplaced, economically risky, and weakly supported by empirical evidence, especially when viewed against Nigeria’s prevailing structural and macroeconomic realities.
The CPPE boss noted that retail prices of many non-alcoholic beverages have risen by about 50 per cent over the past two years, even without the introduction of new taxes, further squeezing consumers.
Yusuf further expressed reservation on the effectiveness of sugar taxes in addressing the root causes of non-communicable diseases in Nigeria.
