RSG Plans Youths Dev Programme
Rivers State Government says that it has concluded plans to embark on programmes that would ensure that youths of Rivers State contribute towards the overall development of the society.
The Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Felix Nwaeke disclosed this during a capacity building Workshop for youth organisations and voluntary organisations in Port Harcourt recently. Hon. Nwaeke said that the present government in the state believes that to build the youths is to build the nation, pointing out that it was against this background that the workshop was being organised.
According to him, since the youths are organised under well structured umbrella bodies, building strong youth organisations, through capacity building programmes, invariably means building the youths” and expressed the hope that those receiving the training would eventually go back to pass on the message and skills to the other members of their organisation.
“It is our hope that the synergy between the modest efforts of the youths organisations and that of the state government will undoubtedly yield fruitful dividends that will more effectively impact the state in particular and the nation in general, he said.
In his lecture entitled: “Building Strong Youth Organisations For High Social Impact” the commissioner for Energy/Natural Resources Dr. Dawar, George regretted that some youths organisations lack focus.
Dr. George stressed the need for youths in the state to engage in meaningful ventures that would bring about development in their communities.
The Commissioner who was a former president of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Rivers State Chapter also warned them against engaging in anti social behaviours.
