Skills Acquisition: NAOC Trains 550 Youths
A total of 550 youths
from host communities across the operational areas in Imo, Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta States, have graduated from the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) 2012/2013 skills acquisition scheme, as part of its contribution towards human capacity building, youth empowerment and poverty eradication in the areas.
The Tide reports that the graduands had their training in five centres which include Rumueme and Omoku Centres in Rivers State, Obama and Sagbama Centres in Bayelsa State and Ashaka centre in Delta State. Besides, each of the centres had 100 trainees, except Omoku Centre that had 150 trainees.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony which was marked at the respective centres, the Assistant Manager Green River Project (GRP), Sir Dan Onyeaghala, revealed that the youths had training for one year in trades like woodwork, fashion designing, computer application, welding and pipeline fitting, catering and event management.
He commended the trainees for exhibiting good sense of discipline during the one year training period and the facilitating NGOs in the various centres for providing the technical know-how that made the trainees combatant ready for challenges ahead.
GRP boss noted that the scheme was aimed at taming down the idleness among the youths, also engaging them in meaningful activities that would improve their economic well being.
He charged the graduands to be good ambassadors of their respective host communities by show casing the skills acquired in the scheme and in turn earn a living as a self employed entrepreneur.
In his remarks, NAOC General Manager, District, Massimo Insulla, noted that human development of the youths in the host community and the infrastructural development of the area remain in the front burner of the policy thrust of the company.
The GMD, represented by the Public Relations, Communication and Government Liaison Manager, Prince Nwachuku Obi, while commending the various community leaders at the respective centres for providing enabling environment for the successful conclusion of the training, charged the trainees to train others and use their skills to better their lot, saying that the next batch of trainees will soon be engaged.
Various representatives of Government functionaries, community leaders, Royal Fathers and representatives of Community Development Committees (CDC) at the respective Centres gave their goodwill messages and worthy advice to the trainees, as the graduands also assured to be good Ambassadors of their respective communities.
As a way of support for the actualisation of the skill acquired, The Tide reports that NAOC empowered the graduands in various trades with a starter pack and a take-off grant, as well as a government Trade Test Certificate to authenticate the skill acquired.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
