Group Demands ICT TeachersEmployment The Ijaw Youth Congress
(Kalabari branch) has reiterated the need for recruitment of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) teachers in the state’s owned secondary and primary schools in a bid to give ICT training a face-lift.
The chairman of the group, Comrade Sobrasua Odum who made this known in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt, Thursday said special attention should be given to all ICT established centres in the state, adding that this would add colour to the course ( ICT)
He reasoned that since the state government has made a pragmatic step towards the venture, it would be fantastic if all the needed manpower were also available.
Odum pointed out that it would be obscure for an untrained ICT teachers to teach the students/pupils the course.
He explained that the best way to bring the best in the students is early exposure to ICT training, which the state has commenced, adding that more hands are still needed in the field.
The IYC leader, suggested a critical look at the curriculum vitae (cv) of the recently recruited 13,000 teachers to fish out those who specialised in ICT or related fields as to draft them to the department without delay.
He pointed out that the Information and Technology Development was one of the latest discoveries of this present age that has continued to ease work loads in different places.
“No one should be left behind in things pertaining to IT/ICT, because it is actually helping people today to overcome work loads in both offices and other areas”, he said.
Meanwhile, he called on the state government to rally round and refix the burnt ICT centre at the secretariat complex to enable students continue to enjoy the ICT summer lessions introduced by the government some years back.
Though, he did not make specific statement about how to take the summer Lessons to the rural areas, he, however, suggested that a central ICT centre be built for each local government to enable rural dwellers to benefit from the system.
