Customs Warns Public Over Impersonators In Auction, Recruitment
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has warned Nigerians to be wary of the escalating activities of fraudulent entities preying on unsuspecting individuals through social media platforms, falsely claiming association with the NCS for purposes of auctions or recruitment.
A statement issued by the national spokesman of the NCS, Abdullahi Maiwada, said the customs’ attention has been brought to a surge in scams orchestrated by deceitful individuals impersonating high-ranking officials within the NCS, adding that the fraudulent tactics exploit the public’s trust, promoting fictitious auctions and sham recruitment drives purportedly endorsed by the Service.
The Customs said, “all seized/overtime goods have laid down Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for disposal in line with the Customs Service Act, 2023.
“While the items might be in the custody of NCS, officials are only authorized to conduct auctions or recruitment with the requisite legal backing in line with its processes and procedures”.
The NCS reiterated that “auctions of seized goods are never conducted via any social media platform, and any such claims on social media should be treated as fraudulent and promptly reported”.
It stated that for accurate and updated details about the NCS and its operations, it strongly encouraged the public to verify information exclusively through the official NCS website, www.customs.gov.ng.
The Customs disclosed that the public should also reach out to its help desk line at +2347037891156, adding that its official social media handles, listed below, also serve as reliable sources of information.
These channels, it said, “are committed to providing accurate and authenticated updates on our service and activities”.
It also advised Individuals to visit any Customs formation nationwide and meet with the Public Relations Officers (PROs) to verify any financial commitments related to seized goods or recruitment before proceeding.
The Customs stated that its commitment “remains unwavering in protecting the public from fraudulent activities”, while it implored everyone to exercise vigilance and prudence when approached with offers or announcements regarding Customs auctions or recruitment.
It said any suspicious activities should be reported to the nearest Customs office or through our official communication channels for immediate assistance.

Blue Economy: Minister Seeks Lifeline In Blue Bond Amid Budget Squeeze

Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy is seeking new funding to implement its ambitious 10-year policy, with officials acknowledging that public funding is insufficient for the scale of transformation envisioned.
Adegboyega Oyetola, said finance is the “lever that will attract long-term and progressive capital critical” and determine whether the ministry’s goals take off.
“Resources we currently receive from the national budget are grossly inadequate compared to the enormous responsibility before the ministry and sector,” he warned.
He described public funding not as charity but as “seed capital” that would unlock private investment adding that without it, Nigeria risks falling behind its neighbours while billions of naira continue to leak abroad through freight payments on foreign vessels.
He said “We have N24.6 trillion in pension assets, with 5 percent set aside for sustainability, including blue and green bonds,” he told stakeholders. “Each time green bonds have been issued, they have been oversubscribed. The money is there. The question is, how do you then get this money?”
The NGX reckons that once incorporated into the national budget, the Debt Management Office could issue the bonds, attracting both domestic pension funds and international investors.
Yet even as officials push for creative financing, Oloruntola stressed that the first step remains legislative.
“Even the most innovative financial tools and private investments require a solid public funding base to thrive.
It would be noted that with government funding inadequate, the ministry and capital market operators see bonds as alternative financing.
