Victory Over Bayern, Best-Ever Game For Chelsea – Mikel
Former Super Eagles and Chelsea legend, John Obi Mikel has revealed that the 2012 Champions League final against Bayern Munich was his best game for the club.
The 36-year-old at the weekend featured for the club in a charity game for former Italian manager Gianluca Vialli against Bayern Munich legends at Stamford Bridge.
After the game, Mikel told the club’s website he should have won the man of the match award as the Blues lifted their first UCL trophy in Munich.
He said, ‘My best-ever game,’ referring to the final 11 years ago.
“I should have won the man of the match but Didier obviously came good and saved the day. I’ve watched that game a few times since.”
Mikel also said it was nice to be back playing with some of the guys he lifted the trophy with.
His words: “Popping the ball around, seeing JT and Petr behind us, it just brings back memories. Having Michael Essien in the middle with me, it was a joy tonight.
“I thought the game was really good, we played really well and got the goals. Bayern also had a few moments when they had a bit of a chance but we are Chelsea and when you play at home, you always want to win. That mentality is always there.”
Meanwhile, Fulham hero Tony Gale has welcomed new signing Alex Iwobi.
The midfielder made a surprise move from Everton last week.
Gale wrote for FulhamFC.com: “Alex Iwobi was an interesting signing. I saw Alex a lot when he was at the Arsenal when he came shining through.
“Then he went over to Everton, and every time I saw him there he was their best player, whether he played on the right or the left. They will have been a bit miffed to let him go, I think they needed the money for FFP rules.
“That’s a good nick for us, as he offers us a different option in midfield. Marco (Silva) signed him at Everton as well, knows what he can do, so I think it’s a good signing all round.”

Iwobi Optimistic On S’Eagles Qualification
Iwobi spoke to Tidesports source ahead of Nigeria’s crunch playoff semi-final against Gabon on Thursday, November 13, in Rabat, Morocco.
The 28-year-old was reacting to Nigeria’s shaky World Cup qualifying campaign that saw the Eagles finish second in Group C behind South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
“We’ve managed to rescue ourselves from the dead,” Iwobi told Tidesports source.
We know we have the players and the abilities to compete against any other country in the world.”
The Fulham star pointed to Nigeria’s star power, highlighting African Footballer of the Year winners Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen as proof of the squad’s quality.
“We have last year’s African best player (Ademola Lookman), the year before that (Victor Osimhen),” he said.
“It’ll be a shame if we don’t make it, but we have a lot of confidence. We just have to prove it to ourselves.”
Nigeria’s path to the United States, Canada and Mexico has been turbulent, with two coaches departing during the early stages of qualifying before Éric Chelle steadied the ship to steer the Super Eagles into November’s CAF playoffs.
Four nations from the continent – Nigeria, Cameroon, DR Congo and Gabon – will vie for a solitary spot to compete in next March’s inter-confederation playoffs, with a view to joining the already nine qualified African nations at the Finals.
It would mark Iwobi’s second appearance at the World Cup Finals and the Super Eagles’ first since the 2018 edition of the competition.
Back then, Iwobi featured in all three games as Nigeria was knocked out in the group stage.
