Wike Nominates Enebeli, Six Others For RSIEC …Assembly Screens Nominees ‘Morrow
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has nominated former judge of the Rivers State High Court, Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd) to chair the state Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).
The governor also nominated six others: Prof Emenike Weli; Barrister Adolphus. A. Brown; Dr Lasbury Nnah; Pastor Tamunotonye Tobins; Barrister Chinwe Ihua-Maduenyi; and Mrs Nuka Kponi; as commissioners of the state electoral umpire.
This was revealed in a release signed by the Clerk of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Stanford Oba, in Port Harcourt, last Friday.
The statement invited the nominees to appear before the assembly members for screening and clearance to serve as chairman and members of the RSIEC, tomorrow (Tuesday).
The statement read in full: “The Rivers State House of Assembly is inviting the following nominees to appear before it on Tuesday, 2nd May, 2023 for screening as Chairman and Members of Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).
“The nominees are requested to submit 35 sets of photocopies of their credentials to the office of the clerk and come along with original copies of their credentials including tax clearance certificates for the screening”.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
