Rivers 2023 Consolidation Budget Passes 2nd Reading …House Committee Invites Ministries To Defend Spending Bill
The Rivers State House of Assembly has committed the over N550billion 2023 appropriation estimate to the House Committee on Appropriation.
This followed the second reading on the floor of the house, last Monday.
While commencing debate on the 2023 appropriation estimate, member representing Ikwerre Constituency, Hon. Anslem Oguguo, said the N350billion earmarked for capital expenditure was clear evidence that the appropriation estimate, if passed into law, would accelerate developments in the state.
In his contribution, the Leader of the house, Hon. Martin Amaewhule, said the bill has the support of his constituents, and moved for the speedy passage of the budget estimate following the achievements of the Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, in the 2022 budget.
Amaewhule, however, appealed to members of the house to give their support to the appropriation estimate and ensure speedy passage of the budget estimate.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani, while ruling on the debate, urged the House Committee on Appropriation to invite all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to defend their various budgets.
Ibani also stated that the invite should be extended to the CSOs for their inputs.
The speaker also mandated the House Committee on Appropriation to report back to the house within five days.
Following this mandate, the committee may submit her report, next Monday, for final deliberations and approval.
It would be recalled that Governor Nyesom Wike, had last week, presented the 2023 Appropriation Bill of N550, 666, 987, 238.
The budget estimate was tagged, “Budget of Consolidation and Continuity”.
The governor while presenting the budget, noted that it would focus on delivering economic growth, additional infrastructure and prosperity for citizens.
