Association Tasks Parents On Girl-Child Education
Holy Rosary Girls Secondary School Old Girls Association Class 92 has called on parents and guardians to invest in the education of their girl child.
The Association, which stated this at a celebration to mark the International Day of of the Girl Child in the school, also called on female children not to be ashamed of their gender.
President of the association, Mrs Alom Anyanya Austin Mba, said the event, which is organised annually by the set, is to inform the students of their rights.
“This date, 11th of October, is celebrated annually all over the world and we are here in our alma mata to celebrate with our girls in the school.
“We are here to advocate and to let our girls know their rights as girls, their right to education and a lot of rights”, she said.
Mrs Mba also urged the girls to be proud of their gender, stressing “basically we want to create awareness in each girl child that they are important, that they matter, that they are needed at every sphere of life, they should believe in themselves, and, as a girl child, they are more than their gender”.
She also said the girl child deserve education as their male counterpart, adding that God has endowed the female children with huge potentials that should be explored for the good of the society.
“We are telling them that education is their right, and that there is much potential in them”.
She also urged the students to be focused and become all that God wants them to be.
Also Speaking, the Vice Principal Academic, Mrs Ruth Osazuwa, expressed regret that girls are always looked down upon in the society.
Osazuwa said the girl can excel in all aspects of life if given necessary support.
“They are not just brought to the world for cooking and Cleaning. There are other things they can achieve”, she said.
Noting that the society is not fair to the girl child, she stressed that “no profession is for only a man”.
The United Nations designated 11th October every year as international day of the girl child. This year’s theme is “Now our right, our future”.
