We Won’t Relent In Our Pursuit Of Excellence, Mmom Assures
The Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Prince Chinedu Mmom, has declared that the Ministry of Education under his watch would not relent in its pursuit of excellence.
Mmom stated this when he played host to a league of academics under the aegis of Rivers State Heads of Tertiary Institutions, who paid him a courtesy/familiarisation visit in his office.
A statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Commissioner, Mr Hamilton Robinson, said the education boss informed the Heads of Tertiary Institutions in the state that he has hit the ground running already, saying that a committee has been constituted to embark on needs assessment across the secondary schools in Rivers State.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University, Prof. Nlerum Okogbule, thanked the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, for appointing a seasoned academic as commissioner for education in the state.
Okogbule added that, Mmom, having been involved in teaching, research and community service at the highest ladder of academics, his appointment could be best described as a case of round peg in a round hole.
He acknowledged that though the task was demanding, but the league of academic heads in Rivers State were confident that he would put his wealth of experience to bear and put a lasting legacy that would be ineffaceable.
The Heads of Tertiary Institutions pledged their unalloyed and unflinching support to the commissioner to enable him consolidate on the commendable achievements already recorded by the present administration in the education sector.
Those present include; Prof. Nlerum Okogbule; Vice Chancellor, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Prof. Okey Onuchuku; Rector, Kenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, Dr. Gwara Ledum Suanu; Rector, Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Rumuola, Dr. Sam B. Kalagbor; and Provost, Rivers State College of Health Science and Management Technology, Prof. Franklin Nlerum.
The statement further disclosed that the commissioner also paid a courtesy visit to the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (RSUBEB) to familiarise himself with the board.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of the board, Ven. Fyneface Akah, congratulated the commissioner on his appointment.
Akah added that, since his years of stewardship, Mmom was the first commissioner for education to visit the board for familiarisation.
The executive chairman also pledged the decision of the board to submit a detailed report of its last academic year to the commissioner.
