VC Seeks Synergy With Kira To Dev RSU Campus
The Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, Prof. Nlerum Okogbule, has said that the citing of a satellite campus of the university in Kira community in Tai Local Government Area of the state would open the doors of development to the community.
The vice chancellor said this when he led other principal officers and Management team of the university, on a visit to the Paramount Ruler of Kira community, Chief Michael Bete Nyor, as part of inspection tour of Kira Campus.
Okogbule noted that the approval given by Governor Nyesom Wike, for the citing of one of the satellite campuses in Kira community, was a way to bring development closer not only to Kira, but to other neighbouring communities in particular and Rivers State in general.
He stated that the novel Faculty of Entrepreneurial Studies for the Kira Campus would be a platform to train youths in different relevant skills and make them employable in the various sectors of the nation’s economy.
The VC appealed to the paramount ruler and the Council of Chiefs to provide the necessary support for the campus, assuring that the university would continue to discharge its Corporate Social Responsibility to her host communities.
In his remarks, the Paramount Ruler of Kebara Kira, Chief Michael Bete Nyor, expressed gratitude to God that Kira was selected as one of the communities in Rivers State to host the university’s satellite campuses.
Nyor stated that over the years, Kira has been known for its peaceful and hospitable nature, stressing that in Kira community, there was no difference between the indigenes and non-indigenes.
On his part, the Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Dr. Ebenezer Odike, commended Okogbule for leading the delegation, describing the visit as a mark of honour to the leaders and people of Kiracommunity.
Odike assured the Management that the community would collaborate with the university on security, stressing that if the community was secured, the Kira Campus would equally be secured.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
