Stakeholders Charge Ogonis On Unity, Dev
As the Ogonis commemorate the 26th anniversary of the hanging of Ken Saro-Wiwa and other Ogoni martyrs a cross section of stakeholders have called on various factions of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) to unite in the interest of the Kingdom.
They said this at an Ogoni Martyrs Memorial Lecture 2021 in Bori.
They said the absence of a united MOSOP was affecting the development of Ogoni.
Speaking, convener of the lecture, Prof. Olu Andah Wait Ogosu said the Ogonis want a united MOSOP to advance the cause of the ethnic group and need for selfless leadership.
Ogosu said the sacrifice of Ken Saro-Wiwa had made the Ogonis to stand tall in the comity of ethnic nationalities across the world.
He regretted that the quest for personal advancement had made the people to abandon the sacrifice and ideals of the struggle.
Also speaking, Prof. Johnson Nekabari Nnaa decried the continuous pollution of the Ogoni environment.
He said the pollution of the Ogoni environment was affecting the livelihood of the people, as the people’s survival had been affected.
Speaking, a factional President of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People, Mr Lazarus Taminah said the Ogonis must look beyond oil, adding that he is working on a programme that will ensure sustainable development in Ogoni.
Taminah said the Ogonis should be looking at the development of green energy, stressing that MOSOP will be made to be self sufficient from next year.
