Police Nab Three Over Killing Of Boy In Rivers
The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a three-man gang who allegedly killed and dismembered a nine-year old boy in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.
The command, in statement by its spokesperson, SP Nnamdi Omoni, named the trio as one Kenneth Sylvanus, 24yrs, a native of Azumini Isiokpo; Chibuzor Amadi ‘m’ 33yrs, a native of Omademe both in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State; and Chijioke Ogbonnah ‘m’ 37yrs, a herbalist from Abia State but resides in Omagwa in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
It would be recalled that on November 11, 2021, one Destiny Peter, 9 years old, was declared missing by his Aunt who reported a missing boy’s case to the police and the community youths.
Both the police and the youths immediately swung into serious search which led to the recovery of the headless body of the boy in the bush the following day.
According to the statement, through good intelligence gathering, the identities of Kenneth Sylvanus and Chibuzor Amadi were revealed.
Omoni said that Chibuzor Amadi was immediately arrested and on interrogation, he took the police to an uncompleted building in Azumini Isiokpo where Kenneth Sylvanus was arrested.
The statement further said that they were taken to the Isiokpo Area Command and later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The statement said, “In continuation of the investigation, men of the State CID, immediately took steps and went with the two suspects who gave clearer perspectives to the crime”, adding that they led the police to the bush where the dismembered head of the deceased was recovered behind an uncompleted building.
“However, on further interrogation, Kenneth Sylvanus confessed that he is the one who suspect Destiny Peter and that it was the 3rd suspect, Chijioke Ogbonnah ‘m’ who asked him to bring a human head for him to buy. Based on his confession, the said Chijioke Ogbonnah was arrested on 18/11/2021 in his house at Omagwa. In his statement, he denied any involvement in the murder case, adding that he is an herbalist and sells spiritual materials, including treatment of all kinds of ailments.
“So far, all three suspects are helping us in our investigation.
“Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy and ‘further investigation’.
“The command appeals for calm and promises to get to the root of this mindless killing, with a view to bringing the culprits to justice”, Omoni added.
