Adamawa: NGO Graduates 163 Youths, Women In Skills Acquisition
Arewa Development Support Initiative, an NGO, says it has graduated 163 youths and women in skill acquisition in Adamawa.
Ms Zubaida Basheer, Deputy Coordinator of the organisation, stated this at the graduation ceremony of the graduants yesterday in Yola.
Basheer said that the trainees were exposed to poultry, leather work, catering and beads making as well as Information Communication and Technology (ICT).
She urged the beneficiaries to use the knowledge they acquired to engage in productive activities and become self-employed.
Basheer said that starter packs were provided to the graduants to enable them to set up their businesses.
“We are graduating 163 beneficiaries and thanked God everything went successfully.
“We wish you success and encourage you to start your businesses so that you will be able to train others in your communities,” he said.
The gesture, she said, is part of contributions to complement government’s efforts towards reducing unemployment and enhance wealth creation in the society.
In her remarks, Hajiya Aisha Bello, Coordinator, Adamawa Social Support Programme, commended the initiative and called on other organisations to emulate the gesture.
Bello described the training as positive steps towards making positive impact on the beneficiaries.
She tasked the beneficiaries to ensure effective utilisation of the starter packs and engage in productive activities.
Some of the beneficiaries, Fatima Umar and Bitrus Davidson, said that they were trained on poultry and leather work.
Umar said that she received 20 chickens, one bag of feeds and sawdust, adding that the gesture would encourage youths and women development.
