Banigo Eulogises Rex Jim Lawson
The Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo has eulogized the late King of High Life Music, Cardinal Rex Jim Lawson on the Golden Jubilee of his death.
In a statement in Government House, Port Harcourt, yesterday, Banigo described the late music maestro, as a great patriot who used his musical talent to put the Rivers people on the global map, with his great lyrics and well synchronized musical instruments, especially the ‘alto saxophone’, which earned him the title “Cardinal.”
According to Banigo, 50 years after his sudden demise, in a tragic auto crash, Rex Lawson’s music is still very relevant and time less because of the philosophical, theological and multi-lingual nature of his music, which appeals to all strata of the society.
She said the late Cardinal Jim Erekeosima Lawson would forever be remembered as a great son of the Niger Delta, whose music has continued to positively impact on the society, and prayed the Almighty God to continue to grant his soul eternal repose.
It would be recalled that the late Cardinal Erekeosima (Rex) Jim Lawson died at the early hours of January 16, 1971, in an auto crash on his way to perform at a show in Warri, Delta State.
