Commercial Drivers Want Agency To Fix Etche Roads
Commercial drivers plying routes in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, have appealed to the Rivers State Road Maintenance Agency to extend its operation zero potholes programme to roads in the area.
The drivers lamented the bad condition of roads in the area.
Speaking to The Tide, recently, a concerned indigene of Etche ethnic nationality, who is also a driver, Mr Chijioke Okere, called on the road maintenance agency to extend their operation to the area.
He said there were numerous deplorable roads in Etche that need government attention. He listed the roads to include Egwi, Afara, Mbaa and Ozuzu roads. He said that the bad condition of the roads had affected transportation and economic well-being of the people.
Okere commended the state governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, for inaugurating the agency with a view to remediating roads that are badly affected with potholes in the state, stressing that Etche axis of the state should also be considered.
Another driver who spoke to The Tide on condition of anonymity said the bad state of roads in Etche was affecting the economy of the people of the area negatively.
He, however, lauded Governor Wike for the numerous road projects he delivered in Etche Local Government Area during his first term, appealing that efforts should be made to fill the potholes on most of the roads in the area.
A passenger, Mrs Agnes Weke, who spoke to our correspondent lamented that the deplorable condition of some roads in Etche had affected the local farmers in the area as most of their farm products could not be transported to Port Harcourt for sale.
