Wike Charges Corps Members On Discipline
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has charged the Batch ‘B’ members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), to adhere to the disciplinary measures of the orientation programme, if they desire to become leaders of tomorrow.
Wike said that youths must imbibe moral values and acceptable social behaviour as captured in the NYSC motto, ‘service and humility’, and shun all forms of social vices as future leaders.
The governor stated this during the swearing in ceremony of 1, 576 members of the Batch ‘B’, Stream 11 corps members deployed to the state at Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area, recently.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Special Service Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr George Nwaeke, the governor said, the NYSC scheme was prepared to enrich youths with different activities and potentials to impact the society.
“Over the years, corps members have contributed their quota immensely to nation-building through the initiation and execution of viable community development projects in the areas of education, agriculture, health-care delivery and rural infrastructure”, he said.
He further commended management and staff of the NYSC for their diligence and steadfastness in creating a brighter future for the educated youths of the nation via partnering the CBN for provision of loans for corps members willing to be entrepreneurs.
Earlier, the state NYSC Coordinator, Mr Chinwendu Chukwu, had charged corps members to take seriously the skills and habit of love and brotherliness for national integration.
Justice Margret Okpara of the Rivers State Judiciary administered the corps members’ oath taking.
