RSG, EU Train Personnel On Water Information Management
As the European Union and Rivers State water project gets to advanced stage, some selected personnel from the Ministry of Water Resources and Rural Development have undergone two days training on water information and management.
The training is a precursor to EU/RSG water project which took off in Opobo/ Nkoro, Akuku Toru and some parts of Port Harcourt, recently.
The project covers rural, small towns and metropolis and is expected to be driven by a technical team.
Acting Permanent Secretary Ministry of Water Resources, Engr. Emmanuel Amatemeso said the training is to arm the trainees with latest Information Communication Technology skills to help manage water output and provision in the state.
He also said the centre will help boost revenue for the ministry as helps in research and development.
In his words, “all water data will be stored in the centre and it helps provide readymade information on water in the state.
Engr Amatemeso commended the EU for its support in assisting the state deliver on public utility and assured that the centre will be utilised properly.
The trainees were further enjoined to utilise the knowledge to boost expertise on water management and to help train others in the sector.
The ICT centre is part of the EU counterpart support with government making 30 percent, while EU provides 70 and communities 5 per cent.
Already some communities in Opobo/ Nkoro and Akuku Toru have started enjoying the scheme.
