Election Peaceful In Delta North
The governorship and House of Assembly elections were generally peaceful in communities in Delta North Senatorial district.
The Tide source who monitored the elections reports that materials for the elections arrived various centres early, with voting kicking off at most communities at about 8 a.m.
Card readers were fully deployed for the exercise and an atmosphere of peace and tranquility pervaded at the communities.
At Owa Alero in Ika North East, where Governor Ifeanyi Okowa voted, proceedings commenced on schedule.
A PDP chieftain, Prof. Sylvester Monye, said that he voted with ease at Gbonoza Primary School at Onicha-Ugbo in Aniocha North.
“I came in here not quite long and I have voted without hitches. We hope the situation is the same throughout the state.”
On his part, the Delta Commissioner for Information, Chief Patrick Ukah, who cast his vote at Ward 9 Unit 3 in Okpanam, at about 10 a.m., said, however, that there was low turnout of voters in the area.
He said that some people were frightened by the presence of soldiers, who he said, paraded round the town before the voting.
“The card reader is also still a major issue. I spent about 45 minutes before voting at my centre.
“But generally, the election was peaceful and as I am speaking, it is few minutes to 2 p.m. and the process is still peaceful. We pray that the peace is sustained.”
