Polls: Igbo Group Declares Support For Atiku, Obi
Ahead of the general elections, the Igboezue, an Igbo socio-cultural organisation based in South Africa, has declared support for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi, saying the duo have the potential to turn around the country’s fortunes.
A chieftain of Igboezue and spokesman of Anambra State Association (ASA) in South Africa, Mr. Chris Nwokoye, in a statement made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt, expressed the hope that Atiku and Obi would create jobs and wealth for Nigerians, if elected into office following their wealth of experience.
According to him, “I wish to thank the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for choosing Mr. Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State as his vice presidential candidate.
“With their wealth of experience, they will turn around the economy of our country for good. The combination is a good one, and I believe that if elected, they will deliver on their promises.”
Nwokoye further said that Anambra people in South Africa would mobilise those at home to come out en masse and vote on the election days.
“It is important to shun voter apathy. The time has come for our people to vote for candidates of their choice. Voter apathy is not in our interest. We will ensure that the people support the Atiku and Obi ticket,” he stated.
The Igboezue chieftain also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the elections are free, fair and credible.
“The 2015 election is on record to be free and fair. INEC has the potential to repeat a similar feat in the 2019 elections”.
