DPR Seals Filling Stations, Gas Outlets In P H
The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Port Harcourt Zone, says it has sealed off four petrol filling stations and four Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPH), also known as cooking gas retail outlets in Port Harcourt.
Zone Controller, Port Harcourt DPR, Dr Ibani Frank-Briggs who conducted the sealing off exercise Wednesday, said that the filling stations and cooking gas retail outlets, which are located along Ikwerre Road, Port Harcourt were shut down for illegal business.
Frank-Briggs disclosed this during a surveillance to some Petrol Stations in Rivers State on Wednesday.
He listed offences committed by the filling stations to include under disposing of Petroleum Produs, Operating without a valid license and unsafe practices.
The DPR Controller stated that the DPR has the “mandate to regulate and sanitise the downstream petroleum sector’’.
On his part, the Head, Petroleum Downstream, DPR, Mr Patric Emordi, decried the location of some cooking gas retail outlets in the State in residential areas, noting that ‘’ it is a big risk and unsafe’’.
He also complained that many of the gas stations do business without a valid DPR license, assuring that the raid on illegal operations would continue.
According to him,” we will go back and premeasure again and anyone that we seal has to pay the appropriate fine’’.
Emordi warned against decant of cooking gas in the retail outlets, saying, ‘’ You know decanting is an illegal practice, which can cause various hazards, it can even lead to fatalities’’.
The Chairman of the Liquified Petroleum Gas Marketers Union, Innocent Oparaodu, in his remarks, pledged the union’s support to the DPR to sanitise the sector, adding that the union would ensure the training of their members on safety measures especially on how to handle petroleum gas incidents.
The DPR also sanctioned six petrol filling stations for violating regulations and confiscated seven gas decanting equipments from cooking gas retailers.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
