Police Recover 519 Cache Of Ammunition …Arrest 70 Hoodlums In Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command says it has recovered about 519 cache of ammunition and arrested 70 alleged suspects in the state.
The suspects include one Chidi Egbueri and Samuel Igori, who are alleged members of the Iceland Cult group, who were responsible for the beheading of four persons at Umudioga community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state, recently.
The state Commissioner of Police, Zaki Mohammed Ahmed, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Port Harcourt, over the weekend.
Zaki explained that the briefing was to highlight the various achievements recorded by the command within the month of July and the first week of August, 2017.
The state police boss while giving the breakdown of the figure said, 30 alleged cultists, 18 kidnappers and 22 armed robbery suspects were arrested within the period under review.
He further disclosed that during the period, 12 suspected cultists, eight alleged kidnappers as well as a suspected armed robbery suspect were also prosecuted.
The breakdown further showed that five armed robbery attacks and four kidnapping incidents were foiled, while 11 kidnapping victims were rescued.
According to Zaki, 27 assorted riffles, 40 cartridges, 10 magazines, five vehicles, 12 assorted GSM handsets as well as one machete were also recovered.
He averred that the command has zero tolerance for crime and criminality, adding that they were prepared to go the whole hug to achieve set goal.
“We have expressed strong commitment and unwavering resolve to deal with all criminal elements in the state, and by the special grace of God, the battle against them must be won and sustained”, he stated.
Zaki disclosed that the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command arrested one Sunday, who on November 17, 2016, kidnapped one Eke Ikechukwu, and dispossessed him of his Toyota Camry and other valuables at Eleme-Akpojo axis of the state, adding that the suspect had confessed to the crime.
He further disclosed that the Anti-Kidnapping Unit rescued one Favour Udochukwu, 33, who was kidnapped by one Lucky Orji and Innocent Chigozie, who were currently helping the police to arrest the other fleeing members of the gang.
The state police helmsman stated that the command has put in place adequate crime control measures, which according to him, were already yielding good results.
“We are continually and regularly raiding all perceived criminal hideouts in the state. We have also increased motorized patrols of the East-West Road and other flash points.
“There are many more things we are doing to police the command. I sincerely seek your collaboration and partnership as, together, we shall win the war against these criminal elements in the state”, he stated.
