Rivers Hosts Doctors’ Scientific Confab, Dec
As Rivers State prepares to host the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP) biennial delegates meeting and scientific conference between December 11 and 18, 2016, members of the association in the state have intensified awareness and sensitisation tour of government institutions, corporate bodies and other stakeholders, to solicit support for a successful delegates’ outing in the state.
Speaking while on a courtesy visit to the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Eleme Local Government Area, Chief Obariolomate Ollor, the state branch executive of NAGGMDP explained that they were at the council headquarters to sensitize the people of the local government on the importance of the upcoming biennial delegates’ meeting/scientific conference schedule to hold in Port Harcourt.
The leader of the delegation and state Chapter Chairman, Dr Sofiri Peterside Jnr., said part of the reasons behind the visit was to create awareness on the need for government to commence the implementation of the National Health Insurance Act 2014, as well as to mobilise the people of Eleme to key into the huge benefits of the conference.
He explained that the conference, which is schedule to hold 11th through 18th of December, 2016, at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex, Moscow Road, will feature, among others, a medical outreach, where patients with various ailments would be provided with free diagnosis, drugs, and counselling.
Peterside further lamented the huge challenges facing the provision of effective medical services to the people owing to obsolete medical equipment and lack of adequate infrastructure to fast-track improvements in desperately needed healthcare delivery services.
He, therefore, solicited the council’s generous support towards the hosting of the conference, adding that Eleme LGA was one of the few areas the association considered very crucial to extend adequate medical services to.
Reacting to the doctors’ request, the CTC Chairman, Chief Obariolomate Ollor, promised to consult extensively with the diverse stakeholders in the area on how best the people can tap into the programme, and also benefit through wellness.
Ollor, who also is a human anatomy specialist said, also pledged the council’s readiness to mobilise the grassroots people to support and participate actively in the forthcoming event, adding that it was a rare opportunity to boost medical tourism in the state.
