Lilypond Customs Rakes In N1.57bn
The Lilypond Command
of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ijora, has said that it raked in the sum of N1,571,662,834 from different revenue sources in May.
The command‘s Area Controller, Alhaji Dalhat Abdulkadir revealed the figure when members of the House of Representatives Committee on Customs, led by Rep. Hammed Chanchangi, visited the command.
The Tide reports that the committee was at the command to verify contracts and projects at Lilypond‘s Ijora terminal and to carry out its oversight functions.
Abdulkadir said he was delighted by the May revenue figure, saying it was a major jump compared to the command‘s January to April revenue figures, total of which stood at N1,616,586,543.
He said he was pleased that a monthly average of N400 million from January to April had increased to N1.6 billion in May alone.
“This is a major revenue jump for us compared to the N1.6 billion recorded for four months, that is January to April. We are happy at this figure and we will do all we can to make it better,’’ he said.
The controller attributed the success to the blockage of revenue leakages as well as constant engagement with stakeholders on how to improve their operations at the command.
He, however, said the inability of AP Moeller terminal to feed the command with containers had substantially reduced the volume of containers at the Lilypond terminal as well as its revenue.
Abdulkadir urged the visiting committee to intervene in the challenges facing the command so that it would perform optimally.
The Leader of the House Committee delegation, Chanchangi commended the command for its revenue performance in spite of the many challenges in the country‘s economy.
